South African Immigration - Work Permit (No Job Offer)

Quota and Exceptional Skilled Work Permits

South African employers have an obligation to offer a position firstly to local South Africans, this process has been put in place to protect local South Africans livelihood. In essence foreigners can live and work in South African however they must first prove that there are no qualified South Africans available to fill the position. Once this is confirmed, employers can then recruit workers from abroad where they were unable to find qualified workers.

The Quota work permit focuses more on the Public Skill Shortage List. The skill shortage list contains occupations and professions identified at a national level, where local South Africans are difficult to recruit to fulfil that specific role. As with any visa application, there are general requirements. In this case to qualify for a Quota Work Permit individuals must possess the required skills, education and experience as specified on the shortage list. Once your Quota Permit is issued the candidate then enters South Africa and is given 3months to find the appropriate position.

With regards to the Exceptional Work Permit, individuals must prove that they have rare or unique skills, experience and education. Each case is judged on its merits but applicants need to provide substantial evidence of their exceptional skills in order to qualify for this visa. Please speak with a member of our South African team for further information on working in South Africa.
